Southwest Airlines is ready for us to fly the friendly skies again. Oh wait, that’s United Airlines’ tagline. LOL, my bad.

No matter, as most airlines are ready to get passengers back in the sky. Our economy is also ready for us to act as if we’re back in 2019 when we were out there globetrotting and #livingourbestlife. Southwest is so ready for us to get back to flying that it launched its first summer fare sale today, but did they ask us how we feel?

Are you ready to travel again?

If I was to take the pulse of the travelistas on Instagram or Facebook, most are eagerly ready for life after COVID-19 and are mentally ready to jet-set around the world. However, are you really ready to book a flight and physically travel domestically or internationally?

As someone who traveled to over ten countries last year, I know I’m not ready to travel just yet. I wish I felt differently as this pandemic has severely impacted my business, which is to take women of color on intimate travel experiences around the world so they can pause for a little self-care and sisterhood.

I’m not ready to travel and here’s why:

  • The obvious reason is because of the global level 4 health advisory warning people not to travel
  • Testing is still not available everywhere and at a price where everyone can afford it if universal testing was available
  • I need for Airlines to ditch passing out blankets and instead distribute medical-grade wipes so passengers can wipe down their areas
  • Countries I want to visit, like South Africa or Bali, have banned entry for US citizens
  • Masks are not permanently mandatory on all flights
  • Even if I tried to ‘Naomi Campbell’ clean my seat on a plane, I’m still not comfortable yet that they’d be clean enough for me to feel safe

For the record, I’m not encouraging others not to travel or catch some of these travel deals. I’m saying, for now, the only place I plan to travel to is Las Living Room, St. Bedroom, and I may even venture out to Costa Del Backyard
